Amazon.com Review

Powered with next-generation sonic technology, the two-speed Elite 7500 cleans teeth with dentist precision. A tapered brush head with extra-soft, contour-fit bristles sits atop a slim, angled neck--improving reach to hard-to-brush areas. Two speeds let the user choose between high for maximum brushing power, and low for a more gentle touch on gums, tongue, and sensitive spots. The 7500 features the Smartimer, which shuts the brush off automatically after two minutes, as well as the Quadpacer interval timer, which beeps every 30 seconds, allotting each quadrant of the mouth equal brushing time. The 7500 includes one Elite series brush head, a charger base with deluxe recharge gauge, a deluxe travel case, and a luxury brush holder. A two-year warranty covers the charger and ergonomically designed Elite handle against defects. --Ann Bieri

Sonicare technology generates 31,000 bristle sweeps per minute. Laboratory studies show that it removes harmful plaque bacteria up to 4 mm beyond the bristle tips -- even below the gum-line.

Design
The Elite's brushes have a tapered, lightweight handle, angled neck and advanced brush head design, making brushing more effective and enjoyable. The design also allows you to spend time on hard-to-reach areas and trouble spots without risking enamel wear. The Elite features a slim, angled neck, contour-fit, extra gentle bristles and a unique ergonomic, lightweight handle.

Sonic Technology
Inspired by the technologies of much more expensive dental equipment, Sonicare toothbrushes create a dynamic fluid cleaning action that works like tiny, but powerful sonic waves. These waves dislodge plaque that isn't normally reachable by a manual brush, or the oscillating or rotating movement of other power brushes. In fact, dynamic fluid cleaning action can actually make it easier to clean plaque below the gum-line. The bristles on a Sonicare play an important part as well. Their high velocity movement creates the dynamic fluid cleaning action, while allowing for direct contact with each tooth. Sonicare's bristles are also designed to be extra gentle on teeth and gums.

Smartimer
Smartimer is the automatic shut-off feature in your Sonicare brush that helps encourage you to brush for two minutes, which is the dental professional recommended brushing time. It's simple -- after two minutes, your Sonicare shuts off. If at any time during brushing you momentarily stop the brush to rinse or apply more toothpaste, the Smartimer pauses its timing so that you can pick up where you left off. Although two minutes is recommended for optimal results, you can always stop or restart the brush at any time by pressing the power button. Whenever the handle is placed in the charger, the Smartimer automatically resets to ensure a full brushing cycle the next time you use it. The Smartimer also automatically resets itself if you stop your Sonicare toothbrush for longer than 45 seconds.

Easy-start
Because the sensation created by Sonicare's dynamic fluid action is unique, Sonicare has a feature that lets your gums get accustomed to it over the first 12 to 14 uses. All Sonicare models come with the Easy-start feature activated, which helps you adjust to brushing with Sonicare. The Easy-start feature is active on your brush if you hear 2 beeps immediately after turning on your Sonicare. Once you reach optimal brushing power you will no longer hear the double beeping at the beginning of your brushing routine.

Programmable Quadpacer
The 7500's programmable Quadpacer makes sure that you brush all four quadrants of your mouth evenly and thoroughly. At 30-second intervals (30, 60 and 90 seconds for a 2-minute brushing cycle), you will hear a short beep and a pause in brushing action. This is your signal to move to the next section of your mouth. Quadpacer makes it easy to clean all areas of the mouth equally well. Because the 7500's Quadpacer is programmable, you can add an additional 30 second interval for problem areas of your teeth and gum-line. The programmable Quadpacer is great for targeting those troublesome areas that require more conscientious brushing.

Deluxe Recharge Gauge
Anytime the toothbrush handle is charging, the green charge indicator LEDs will blink in a rising pattern. The relative height of the pattern indicates the battery's approximate percentage of charge. When the battery reaches full charge, the blinking LEDs are replaced by a steady glow of the entire LED array. Meanwhile, a blinking yellow LED warns you that fewer than three brushings remain on the current charge.

Dual Speed Control
This feature lets you set the brushing power to work with your needs. Choose normal speed for optimal plaque removal and reduced speed for gentle cleaning of sensitive areas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blows the original Sonicare and Oral B away!, May 12, 2003
By
This review is from: Philips Sonicare Elite 7500 Power Toothbrush (Health and Beauty)
Three years ago, I threw away my Oral B for a Sonicare, and I thought the Sonicare was far and away better than my Oral B. The one dislike, however, was the relatively large head design, which made it a little difficult to reach the rear teeth. About two weeks ago, I got a mailer from the people at Sonicare, announcing their "new and improved" Sonicare Elite model. The ad said the new head design was angled, and featured a new design that clinical tests showed improved cleaning by about 20 percent over the older model. So, I bought it; literally. And after the first use, there is little doubt that the new Sonicare Elite is everything it's said to be. The new angled head and brush design make reaching every tooth easy. And the powerful sonic brush strokes leave your teeth feeling like you've just had a cleaning at the dentists office. This is one amazing toothbrush! Honestly, I don't know why my dentist recommends Sonicare so highly, because the better oral health it... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Do your homework before you buy., June 27, 2006

I love the Sonicare toothbrush. I like the way it makes my mouth feel after brushing, but I would like to address this question to the Phillips folks: Other than simple greed, is there any other reason why you would design, market and sell a $100.00 toothbrush that must be thrown away when its rechargeable batteries lose their ability to hold a charge? Is there some reason that you don't include this information in your advertising of the product? And as far as a single charge lasting up to two weeks of "normal" brushing, this is a bit of advertising hyperbole at best. While carefully following the initial charging instructions with my two toothbrushes, I have rarely gotten more than a weeks use (brushing twice a day for 2 minutes each session) from either battery. It is a nice product, but it would be better if you could slap a couple of rechargeable nicads in the handle when the old batteries no longer hold a charge rather than throwing the whole thing away.

5.0 out of 5 stars more efficient than other electric toothbrush, April 23, 2003
By
This review is from: Philips Sonicare Elite 7500 Power Toothbrush (Health and Beauty)
As a dentist, I have tried this toothbrush as well as other electric toothbrush, such as Oral-B. Unlike other rotary toothbrush, this one is unique because of its high frequency of brushing strokes(31,000/min). It is more efficient than other similiar products.

However, I believe that a regular toothbrush can clean as well as any electric toothbrush. It's like driving a car with automative transmission vs manual. Both can take you to the same destination. Electric toothbrush does make one's life easier if one spends the time to use it correctly. And an electric toothbrush's coolness provides some motivation.

Sonicare is a fine product, but it does come with a high price tag. If you are willing to spend the money, this is probably the best electric toothbrush out there. Take the time to brush your teeth, even if you are using a electric toothbrush.
